Prism submitted a planning application to Stockton Borough Council in the spring of 2011. Despite the application being supported by both the British Horse Society and specialist equine vets the application was initially refused.
Prism has a special expertise in equine issues and lodged an appeal. It was supported at the hearing by the British Horse Society and specialist equine vets from the Oaklands Veterinary Centre.
In the resulting appeal decision the Planning Inspector remarked that some of the council’s arguments were “not wholly convincing”, “unsatisfactory” and “implausible”. He sided with Prism on all the substantive points debated and overturned the refusal in favour of Kirklevington Riding Centre and Mrs Brooks.
