Middleton Hall is one of the countries oldest purpose built care facilities and is listed Grade II because of this. Its facilities are outstanding and awarding winning care has been the hallmark of its success. The forward thinking operator wanted to add to the facilities to provide a new dementia unit as well as independent living bungalows. The latter were to be carbon neutral, Code 6 units, built to the highest possible standards of energy efficiency.
The scheme was contrary to local planning policy but Prism were able to convincingly argue the need for facilities of this type to cope with our ever aging population.
Together with our arguments on sustainability, the Council had no difficulty supporting what will be the North East’s first Code 6 retirement village.
