AD Facility, Clapham Lodge, Leeming, North Yorkshire
Consent was obtained for a 1.5mw AD scheme processing food waste on a part Greenfield-part brownfield site in North Yorkshire. The application was submitted on behalf of JFS & Associates, a Stokesley based company but operating nationally with a proven track record of delivering AD schemes.
Technically the application was challenging with a number of unusual constraints – archaeology, radar emissions, communication interference as well as the more usual transport, visual and odour issues. The decision marked the end of a long running application which saw the layout and configuration of the site redesigned to prevent interference with the radar emissions from RAF Leeming whose main runway passes close to the site.
Liaison with the local community featured prominently in Prism’s handling of the case and we were able to persuade the local Parish Council, who initially opposed the application, to eventually support the proposals through working on a transport plan which will ensure no extra traffic coming through the village.
The plant will process around 50,000 tonnes of food waste produced by nearby food and drink businesses with the material being brought to the site via tankers.
This is the 8th anaerobic digestion scheme that Prism have obtained consent for in the last couple of years, making us one of the country’s leading practitioners and acknowledged experts in this field.
